The National Disaster Centre has committed K10, 000 to Morobe Provincial Disaster Office to carry out its response effort in the landslide affected area of the Kambum District, Morobe Province.

The landslide caused six lives, 2 adults and 4 school children. The landslide occurred at 0730 hrs (PNG time) on 8th January 2007 after  continuous week of rain.

The landslide devastated 5 square kilometers of prime gardening land for the 300 plus population of Warin village in the Yus LLG of Kambum District.

The Morobe Provincial Disaster officers have visited the impact site by air conducting an Initial Damage Assessment and advised the people in the area to relocate to safer grounds.
