The Papua New Guinea National Disaster Centre has certain mechanisms or tools at its disposal to support disaster response. They are designed to ensure that assistance is delivered fast and efficiently to people affected by disasters through the provision of funding, experienced and trained human resources and appropriate emergency services

Disaster do happen. Are you prepared?
Papua New Guinea being located around the tropical region and along the Pacific Ring of Fire is prone to natural disasters such as volcanic eruptions, flood, cyclone, landslides, tsunamis, etc. The National Disaster Centre has classified certain hazards which are prevalent in Papua New Guinea.

Being aware and informed of disaster is of paramount importance to our communities through out Papua New Guinea, especially rural communities which are vulnerable. Given recent disasters of large magnitudes, you should be well informed with disaster awareness materials that are provided by the National Disaster Centre.

Director's Foreword

On behalf of the Chairman and Staff of the National Disaster Centre, I welcome our valuable online disaster management partners and stakeholder to the website of the National Disaster Centre.

Dissemination of disaster alerts and awareness messages are key components in disaster management. The Centre as the coordinating agency for disaster management issues in the country, now wish to use this mode of communication to transmit valuable disaster risk and disaster management information to everyone so they be better prepared for disasters and emergencies.
